The Valle del Cauca region of Colombia has seen a significant investment of over $13.375 million in tourism development projects over the past two years. These projects, approved by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Fontur, are aimed at improving the competitiveness of the sector, developing infrastructure, and promoting the region as a tourist destination.
The projects have impacted 27 municipalities in the Valle del Cauca and have benefited a wide range of stakeholders, including indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, tourism service providers, food and beverage producers, and reinserted, demobilized, and displaced populations.
The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Germán Umaña Mendoza, emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable, productive, and inclusive tourism that benefits all actors in the tourism chain. He expressed satisfaction with the approval and execution of tourism projects in the Valle del Cauca, highlighting the positive impact on local communities.
Of the total approved projects, 18, valued at $4.943 million, have been allocated to strengthen tourism competitiveness. These projects include initiatives to support community-based tourism organizations, promote sustainable tourism, and strengthen tourism in peace territories.
Two projects, totaling $1.363 million, have been implemented to improve tourism infrastructure. These projects include the construction of piers to strengthen regional tourism and river connectivity, and the construction of modules for the sale of typical products from the Pacific region in the District of Buenaventura.
Seven projects, valued at $1.978 million, have been approved for tourism promotion. These projects include strategies to promote the tourism and hotel offerings of the Valle del Cauca, promote Cali as a destination, and participate in tourism fairs and expos.
Finally, eight territorial investment projects, valued at $5.091 million, have been approved. These projects include initiatives to promote Cali as a destination, participate in the Anato Tourism Showcase, and hold the Second National Congress of Religious and Heritage Tourism in the municipality of Guadalajara de Buga.
