Paul Nguyen, 27, had 46 million pesos stolen from his bank accounts and credit cards before being abandoned on a street in the El Cucaracho sector, in Robledo, Medellin, on November 9.
The young American, of Vietnamese descent, arrived in Medellin to enjoy a vacation season, where he toured Pablo Escobar’s grave and visited the escalators of the popular comuna 13.
Hhe met a 21-year-old woman through the dating app ‘Tinder‘. The couple went to a nightclub in the Carrera 70 sector, in the Laureles commune, where Nguyen was apparently given a toxic substance.
“The woman invites him to leave the place and takes him in a vehicle that is approached by two other men. They approach the citizen and manage to get the keys to the cards. They steal 46 million pesos and then abandon him in the streets of the city,” said Colonel José Miranda, deputy commander of the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Police.
The young man died near some garbage containers between Carrera 91B and Calle 66, in Robledo. The substance that was given to him was scopolamine which, according to the opinion of Legal Medicine, due to its high dose and the mixture with alcohol, caused a respiratory arrest that generated anoxia.
An investigation carried out for four months by the Sijín of the Police, the Technical Investigation Corps and the Attorney General’s Office allowed the capture of the alleged perpetrators of the homicide on March 31.
In addition to the woman, identified as Evelyn Henao Herrera, Bryan Taborda Herrera, 25, and César Augusto Mendoza López, 28, were arrested and prosecuted.
