The Medellín Mayor’s Office has invested 13 billion pesos to enclose Parque Lleras in the El Poblado sector, and will begin fencing it off on May 2. The aim is to create a safe area, with access being controlled by filters. A similar measure was implemented in Plaza Botero a few months ago and has received positive reactions as well as some criticism from citizens and merchants.
Mayor Daniel Quintero has invited the community to accompany this moment and suggested that the same could possibly be done in the Provenza sector. These strategies are motivated by insecurity and problems such as begging and prostitution in the area.
