The district of Medellín has presented the second largest green wall in Latin America, spanning 1,840 square meters and incorporating 96,676 plants on the eastern facade of the Medellín District building. An additional facade at the administrative headquarters of the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area was transformed with 35,516 plants.
The projects, which cost $3.36 billion pesos, were funded entirely by the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area. Mayor, Daniel Quintero Calle, highlighted the environmental benefits, noting cleaner air, improved landscapes, and energy savings due to reduced building temperatures. This initiative is part of a broader move to establish the city and Valle de Aburrá as an “Eco-city” and promote sustainable tourism.
