A Dominican tourist, Dalfren Martínez, experienced a harrowing ordeal during his stay in Medellin’s Calazans neighborhood. He was reportedly drugged and robbed, a crime increasingly common in the area, especially during the holiday season. This incident was highlighted by Blu Radio and further detailed by a family acquaintance, Jesús Castellón.
Martínez, who met a woman through Tinder, invited her to his apartment in Calazans. After spending some time together, they decided to stay in and have drinks. Martínez’s last memory was of having a drink around 1:00 a.m. The following day, the owner of the lodging woke him up after his family, unable to reach him, grew concerned.
Upon waking, Martínez realized he couldn’t remember anything from the previous night. A subsequent check of the apartment revealed missing items, including a television, $500 in cash, two iPhones, personal belongings, and credit cards, which were used to spend an additional $700. The police, upon arrival, did not transport Martínez to a hospital. He later went to Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe in Medellin on his own, where the specific drug used in the robbery couldn’t be identified due to the delay in medical attention.
This case highlights the growing concern over such crimes targeting tourists in Medellin, with perpetrators using sophisticated methods to carry out thefts.
