A recent study by the Federation of Young Women in Spain has revealed that Colombia is the leading South American country in terms of OnlyFans content creators, ranking eighth worldwide. The study, titled “OnlyFans, a Soft Space of the Sex Business,” highlights the significant presence of Colombian creators on the platform.
OnlyFans, an online subscription service founded in 2016, allows content creators to monetize their material and establish a direct connection with their followers. The platform is predominantly known for its sexual content, with users paying a monthly fee to access exclusive material from their favorite creators.
According to the study, the United States leads with 42.35% of the global content creators on OnlyFans. The United Kingdom follows with 7.96%, Mexico with 4.35%, Canada with 3.99%, and Spain with 3.48%. Colombia ranks eighth with 2.06% of the content creators, followed by Chile with 1.79% and Argentina with 1.76%, completing the top ten.
The feminist group that conducted the study has a critical stance on the platform, urging a reflection on how the sexualization of society impacts young women. They argue that young women are being shaped within a social, economic, and political framework that objectifies them for male pleasure.
The study also emphasizes that approximately 97% of OnlyFans content creators are women. Additionally, it cites BBC News, which reported that OnlyFans’ earnings reached $525 million in August 2023, up from $432 million the previous year. This increase is largely attributed to the platform’s 20% fee on creators’ earnings.
The feminist group noted that the number of OnlyFans creators grew by 47% over the past year, reaching nearly 3.2 million. Concurrently, the number of users increased by 27%, totaling around 239 million.
