Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism proudly announces that nine of its beaches have been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag certification. This distinguished award recognizes coastal areas that demonstrate excellence in environmental management, safety, water quality, services, and educational initiatives.
Newly Certified Beaches (First Time):
- Playa El Edén, Santiago de Tolú (Sucre)
- Playa Palo Blanco, Santiago de Tolú (Sucre)
Recertified Beaches (Second Consecutive Year):
- Playa El Morro, Tumaco
- Playa Dorada, Buenaventura
- Playa Blanca, Santa Marta
- Playa Segunda Ensenada, Coveñas
Beaches with Five Years of Consecutive Blue Flag Status:
- Bello Horizonte (Hotel Zuana concession), Santa Marta
- Playa Azul de la Boquilla, Cartagena
- Playa de Johnny Cay, San Andrés
The Blue Flag program, operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), highlights Colombia’s commitment to sustainable coastal tourism. The certification process involves a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, local municipalities, and the Colombian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (Acodal).
“This achievement reflects our government’s dedication to preserving our beaches and promoting responsible tourism,” said Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo. “The Blue Flag signifies a high standard that benefits both our environment and our visitors.”
