Claro Colombia has recently launched its 5G home internet service, making it available first in El Poblado, Medellín, and Envigado. This initiative positions Claro as the pioneering operator to introduce 5G technology for home internet in Colombia, as announced on June 24, 2024, by Rodrigo de Gusmao, president of the company. The service is priced at COP 79,900 per month, which includes a modem and offers 160 gigabytes of data, capable of connecting up to 10 devices simultaneously without requiring physical installation.
This launch is part of a larger plan to extend 5G connectivity to other major Colombian cities, including Bogotá, Cali, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and 14 additional cities by the end of the year. Utilizing fixed wireless access (FWA) technology, the service leverages Claro’s existing mobile network infrastructure to provide fast and reliable internet access. Claro, which currently operates a network of over 10,003 towers and serves more than 37 million users, continues to expand its range of services, which also includes mobile voice and data, landline telephone, broadband internet, and television services to more than 3 million households.
